Somanautiko treats the source, not the symptom.

Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy is, at its core, about learning to quiet oneself, be still, and listen to the intrinsic fluid life-force of the body. Healing comes from within the client, not from the practitioner.

The craniosacral system is essential for our survival. It is made up of the cerebrospinal fluid and membranes that surround and protect the brain and the spinal cord. This elegant internal container is protected the cranium, the bones of the skull, face, and mouth, and extends down through the spine to the tail, the sacrum and coccyx. The cerebrospinal membranes communicate directly with the connective tissue matrix throughout the body making it possible to sense the craniosacral fluid rhythm from anywhere in the body.

A craniosacral therapist uses light touch to sense for what is healthy and flowing well within the client’s body. The therapist also detects any tension patterns that could be restricting the natural fluid movements of the tissues, and limiting the expression of health  in the body-mind.

Craniosacral Therapy is used to address a wide range of common physical body and mental body issues such as sleep disorders, stress, anxiety, depression, chronic pain, headaches, scoliosis, learning difficulties, TMJ, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Sessions are performed fully clothed, sitting, or lying on a bodywork table.

Craniosacral Therapy is deeply relaxing and restorative. It is suitable for people of all ages and abilities including newborns, young children, teenagers, the elderly, and anyone who is highly sensitive.

Throughout its development, Somanautiko has been deeply informed by both biomechanical and biodynamic models of Craniosacral Therapy. For more information about these two branches of Craniosacral Therapy, their founders, and the evolution of this work out of osteopathy, click on the links above. These links will open in new tabs.
