Welcoming Newborns is a process that I developed to provide dignity for and recognition of every baby’s unique experience coming into a human body. Care for this journey into the body often begins with physical and emotional support for the family before conception, with the baby through pregnancy, around delivery and throughout the first three months postpartum, the “fourth trimester.”
As the daughter of a midwife, pregnancy and birth have always been central my life. My gift is that I am a highly attuned listener to the human body. Movement is still my primary language. As I actively listen to a newborn’s experience, I often am called to serve as a translator for families just getting to know their baby’s nonverbal expression of needs and emotions.
Somanautiko bodywork is an essential part of my active listening to newborns process. By talking with the baby’s body through gentle touch and containment, I help identify any structural restrictions or prenatal & birth patterns that might be interfering with how easily the baby is settling back in its body after its birth process.
I support babies in finding maximal ease with breathing, feeding, digesting, pooping, sleeping, communicating, and bonding with their caregivers. These are the essential life skills babies must learn during the fourth trimester and families need support and coaching around to survive and thrive together.
The Welcoming Newborns process begins whenever a family makes contact. Sessions, including an Initial Intake evaluation and treatment, within the first 72 hours of birth are ideal but it is never too late to provide support to an individual of any age, or in any size body, on their journey of self-embodiment and fulfillment.
