In these times of increased unrest, fear, and discomfort, the desire to protest, to occupy spaces to be both seen and heard is a natural human response. So is the impulse to retreat, withdraw, hide, and stick our heads in the sand to wait for the storm to blow over. What if we chose to protest by occupying our heart space instead? What if we harness the power of love and joy as fluid warriors to fuel our voices and lead us into action in the world?

Many hearts may already feel hardened in protection and unexpressed grief from the onslaught of the past 4 years. How do we soften our defenses to open to new possibilities, new information, new perspectives? How could an octopus possibly teach us about new ways to perceive the world? Come into the Octopus’ Garden this summer and tend the quiet beneath the noise with me!

FREE MOVIE NIGHT: My Octopus Teacher. Learn from the Grand Master of fluid movement, strength, ingenuity, and adaptability: The Octopus! Using subtle movements, imagery, and simple sounds you will follow your innate impulses and discover new things about yourself and the world around you.

Why an Octopus teacher?

Change is an unavoidable part of life, and life only becomes more difficult (and dangerous) when we resist its natural flow. Change proves that growth is happening. The invitation of the octopus is to embrace change as creativity in motion. The incomparable somatic intelligence of the octopus comes from its constant subtle communication with everything it encounters with its sensing, perceiving, feeling body. There is rarely a challenge that the octopus cannot meet. The octopus can transform instantly to camouflage itself by mimicking the form, color and texture of another entity – for survival or playfulness. The octopus’ completely fluid body can either contract to conceal itself in the tiniest crevice or expand its reach to cover great distances. What can we learn by perceiving and moving like a creature with a body so entirely unlike our own?

This summer, come discover how play and curiosity are the keys to unlocking both pleasure and natural pain relief one can feel as a sensitive human being in the world. Play is any activity that is spontaneous and pleasurable and done for its own sake. In these five consecutive classes, the play emerges as a simple extension of exploration and inquiry of what is most relevant to you. You will have the opportunity to experience the numerous benefits Continuum offers as a daily practice. Commitment to all five classes required. Please join us!

What is Continuum?

Continuum is an embodied awareness practice that first engages the body with simple breaths that become vocalized sounds that stimulates subtle, spontaneous biological movement responses in the interconnected web of our body, the fascia. These movements spark creative sensory imagery and hone our reflective, meditative awareness. This increases the fluidity of our bodies and the adaptability of our minds. In moments we can begin to recover and restore sensation and awareness that gets flattened and lost in the speed of modern life. As our tissues become less dense (more spacious), we begin to relocate ourselves in the interconnected web of life on this planet. This immediately makes us more resilient by increasing our vitality, adaptability, and immunity as earthlings.

Longer class times promote increased awareness

The longer format classes of Continuum are specifically designed to create a time and space for participants to deeply explore what it means to inhabit and embody a human body-mind. To do this, we must slow down enough to loosen the skins of our cultural anatomy and look beyond fear, and without shame holding us back from embracing our truest Selves. We must return to Source – to our most fluid selves and cells – to tap into the incredible universal intelligence that lies within and vividly reconnects us to all of Life on this planet. Humans are extensions of a planetary process. Continuum is a path to an awakened consciousness that develops from exploring that process.

Appropriate for all ages and abilities. Since everyone was once a child, we all have an entire library of embodied knowledge, movements and sensations to rediscover within us. Bring your curiosity and an open mind, and you’ll have everything you need!

Please wear comfortable layers of clothing you feel most at ease moving in, have a notebook to write in, and a full water bottle on hand.
